A poem by Shafayne MitchellI am from a land that is filled with milk and sand
I am from a place called Linden town where bauxite done I am from a place where neighbours are always watching out for others I am from a river thats brown in colour and a bridge that holds memories I am from a village called West Watooka were vegetation are grown and cattle are reared and boys hang out by the corner I am from Freda and Paul and I will stand tall I am from the West where people aren’t always the best I am from the West where you don’t have to stress I am from the mountains and villages where they aren’t allies I am the Wesleyan Church in the West where God represents the best I am from rice, whether hot or cold, fresh or old once it’s here I am from there I am from baked chicken, fried rice, curry chicken and a little roti but rice, ah it’s a beauty I am from games and sports once it’s fun it’s never done I am from trees and hills. I don’t mind if I have to get a pill or be a little ill after I’ll stand still I am from bro’s and brokes I am from bro’s more than sis, don’t worry I wouldn’t be split I am from girls who dress up but I don’t really get the fuss I am from a place where weddings are bless, rice is in excess, and I don’t have to stress I am from an African race where we can withstand any past I am from a place where we can appreciate our different races, culture, and faces |
